Beautiful Stone Cottage Set In Its Own Garden With Panoramic Views
La Baleine near Gavray, Manche – Superb Countryside, Close to Beaches and Major Normandy Places Of Interest.
La Cachette is a detached stone cottage, set in its own private garden with panoramic views of the beautiful Sienne river valley. Located about 300 metres along a country lane which leads directly to a footpath beside the river, the gite is in the middle of a conservation area renowned for its stunning scenery.
A wonderful riverside walk meanders its way to Gavray, and many other superb walks are accessible direct from the gite. Fishing is available in the river within 200 yards of the gite and the area is teeming with wildlife such as deer, badgers, hare, buzzards, owls, and even the occasional otter.
The local town of Gavray, which is just 5 minutes by car, has a supermarket as well as a choice of restaurants, patisseries, banks, shops etc. A very popular market is held in the town every Saturday morning.
The pristine sandy beaches of the west coast are a mere 20 minutes drive away. The port of Granville is a 20 minutes drive and here you can enjoy the many fish restaurants, visit the Christian Dior House and Gardens on the clifftop above the town. There are ferries to the Channel Islands of which Jersey is a popular place for a day trip. The famous ‘copper’ town of Villedieu les Poeles, and Coutances with its superb Cathedral are all within 20 minutes or so. You can visit the Bell Foundry in Villedieu where the newest bell was made for Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The famous Monastry of Mont St Michel, the town of Bayeux with the Tapestry dating back to the 14th century and many more of Normandy’s main attractions are an easy drive. The WW2 D-day beaches and the War Cemeteries are all within easy reach of La Cachette.
Wining and dining. We have a first class restaurant in La Baleine, 5 minutes walk. This is a very popular restaurant and booking is advised. There are several restaurants in Gavray a 5 minute drive and a choice of Creperies and restaurants in Villedieu les Poeles.
If its Golf that you are interested in there is a Link Course in Granville, described as one of the only true link courses in France. Golf de Coutainville is 20 minutes drive this an 18 hole course.
There are many outdoor tennis courts situated locally.
Trout fishing is 200 metres from La Cachette. Carp fishing in several places in Manche.
The whole area is ideal for cycling. We do have some cycles to use but this is entirely at your own risk.
Locally there are some wonderful houses and gardens, two being Chateau de Cerisy la Salle and Chateau de Canisy which is set in 740 acres and has been in existence for a 1000 years.
Hambye Abbaye is just 5 minutes drive from La Cachette.
La Cachette is perfect for those who appreciate peace and quiet in beautiful countryside. Ideal for lovers of wildlife, birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists. Or, if you wish to explore the main attractions of Normandy, La Cachette is ideally situated. We have been open for over 18 years.

Prices are fully inclusive of gas, electric, and Tourist Tax, Bed linen provided, kitchen towels provided but please bring your own bath towels.
A welcome pack of bread, butter, french cheeses, tomatoes, bottle of local cider, sugar, coffee is also ready for the start of your holiday.
We do accept dogs, after all they need a holiday as well. But please contact us prior to booking.
It is up to the owners to please clear up after the dog in the garden or on the driveway.
